Generally speaking a really good place to visit and kill some time learning all about the history of Cairns

Took my niece to the museum, upon her visit from Perth Western Australia early this year. She thought it was very informative. Great place for even a local to go to learn about this wonderful city that we live in. The gift shop has some great stuff at very reasonable prices. The staff were very helpful. To find items that I once used as a child and that my parents also used was unbelievable. Well worth the visit.

Interesting museum if you want to know more about cairn's history, it's new and beautiful. We had a very lovely volunteer, Fran, she was very passionate and easy to follow, she gave us nice explanations about the important people in the history of cairns, how was work in the past (sugar cane etc), tourism...we learned lot of things! We recommend this museum! Thanks!

I visited the Melbourne Museum a couple of weeks earlier where exhibits were interactive and placed you in the moment so Cairns Museum in comparison came up short. It had excellent information but it required a lot of reading. More interactive exhibits would have improved the experience

Came to Palm Cove for three weeks in the wet season and surprise surprise we got 300mm of rain in 24 hours. What do with the family for the day when you have little ones wanting to burn off some energy. Did some googling and thought might go check out Cairns Museum, not sure what it will be like but glad we did. When you first arrive you don't realize what is on offer when you start on the second floor. The further you go through the more you find. Even found out where the term Furphy came from. Much more to this place than I first expected when I walked in. We spent over two hours here. Even sat out on the balcony and kids had fun with coloring competition and arts and crafts supplied while enjoying the balmy weather from under cover while eating some fruit we had brought with us. The staff are passionate as they are volunteers and really engaging. One offersed to get the tiger shark jaws down for a photo which my daughter loved. Then got her in a little sailing boat and rocked it around to simulate the ocean. Definitely worth the extreamly reasonable entrance price. Recommended for a rainy day excursion.
