Fitzroy Gardens in East Melbourne, Australia takes on an ethereal quality in the light of a streetlamp in the accompanying photo below, emanating deep hues of jade and emerald. It reminds me of the magical sort of place one might encounter in a fairytale, a small piece of tranquility in the middle of a bustling city. Named after Sir Charles Augustus Fitzroy, these gardens receive over two million visitors each year.

Peaceful and serene spot in such a vibrant city. Water fountains were a lovely feature, display in glasshouse was effective. Nice shade trees and avenues to walk along. Run picnic or walk hand in hand with a loved one.

Massive open spaces for picnics, chilling or kicking a ball around. And plenty of huge trees to give you shade on a sunny day. Absolutely love the atmosphere in this garden. It's absolutely massive and is so good to walk around or just chill in.

Beautifully maintained large gardens with a variety of sites to visit. You can sit or lie down and relax peacefully or walk around taking in the landscaped surrounds. The conservatory is full of lush foliage and colourful floral displays. Captain Cook's cottage is located here as are cafes and other points of interest. Allow a couple of hours to do it justice.

Absolutely wonderful gardens. Enjoyed a picnic on the grass down near the Dolphin Fountain and the atmosphere was delightful. Well cared for gardens and grounds. Plenty of areas for picnics and ball games. Great place to take the family for a cheap day out close to the city. Also the site for Captain Cooks cottage which is also well worth a look.
