These guys were honest in their assessment of my Daihatsu. I could've done the work myself but didn't have the time. There was a small hiccup in that one of the apprentices left the rubber bung off the flywheel housing and lost it however Ray was able to order a new one from Daihatsu and replace it for no charge after I discovered it. With the influx of newer and newer EFI (electronic fuel injection) systems, traction control systems, electronic stability and braking controls, particle filters (diesel) and all euro5 emission standards, not to mention the advances (sometimes regression IE VW Golf's dual clutch automatic fiasco) in transmissions/gearboxes the days of the ol' spanner monkey are over and now you virtually need a degree in electronic engineering as well as hands on knowledge of mechanics to correctly diagnose and fix modern cars I would encourage all mechanics Ray included to learn or update their knowledge on EFI (and several other electronic) systems and sensors or perhaps even hire an apprentice auto-electrician If the engine check light comes on in cars 15+ years old it can be a nightmare for a mechanic as quite often the fault can be the ecu (engine computer) or tcu (if the car is automatic, transmission computer. Yes auto cars have 2 computers!) or both and will log all sorts of spurious faults with sensors or simply fail to start or move/change gears/randomly die. I suggest most people do a Google Search on the symptoms your car's doing/making or find online your car's make and model enthusiast forum, post the year manufactured and the fault. Online (backyard and trade qualified) mechanics/technicians on the forum will usually know the most common faults plaguing your aging EFI car. Then armed with an educated guess you can approach your mechanic with a suggestion of fault or idea of approximately how much the repair should be. For cars with engine check light faults or engine will crank but not start (aside from cooking/ceasing/abusing the engine) I'd suggest taking the vehicle to a reputable auto-electrician. For general/routine servicing by the log book I would say Memmott's are competent to the task.

TIP: Go somewhere in Ashgrove, found way better places there. These guys aren't terrible but there is a lot of room for improvement. -Customer Service: When I walked in to their reception, there were two employees in there, one on the phone, one just sitting there. Neither attempted to talk to me despite waiting at their desk until I was like..umm..Hi, I'm here for a service. Also, when I left the car there and waited at a cafe nearby and said it'd take 2 hours and they'll call me. Never called. I called after 2 hours they said it's not done yet and will be done later (no specific time given). Then I rang a couple hours later asking is the car ready and they said...umm yeah of course...like thanks for calling. not. They never try to explain what they did in the service and even when I asked they couldn't be bothered explaining properly. -Car Service: They didn't rip me off. In fact the next mechanic said that they charged me way less than they should've (because they didn't actually do a proper service. It was supposed to be a big service for the car and they only did a minor service but still stamped my log book). -Repairs: Took the car in to get windscreen wipers repaired and aircon fixed. They charged me. Nothing fixed. Went back and they did the aircon again (did they really do it the first time?) and at no extra charge for a 2nd repair but I had all the time of going back and waiting with no calls.

The best place ever. Honest advice. First repair cost me about $25 (idle problem with the LPG), the second cost me $100 to get the gear selector fixed. Ray has been very good to me and you can see his attitude is reflected in all of the staff. Highly recommended

When our previous mechanic retired a friend recommended Memmott's & so glad they did. Ray & his team got our old Pajero up and running again with expert knowledge, old fashioned service & also at a reasonable price. What more could you ask for really?

Dedicated service the old-fashioned and trusted Aussie way. Although my SAAB was a really sick car, they didn't compromise their commitment to fixing whatever can be fixed! Thank you!
