  Both my daughter and son attend Newcastle High School. We are not local Novacastrians and were looking for a good High School close to where we live in Merewether. We had no pre disposition on what to expect from the schools available within our area (both Public and Private), but were pleaseantly surprised by what we found at Newcastle High School. The school itself is central to all inner city suburbs. It is a public school that captures the diversity that is represented by inner city living. This represents an ideal environment to learn life skills (street smarts) while pursuing a wide range of subjects that are not offered at many other schools. The faculty is made up of many great and enthusiastic teachers looking to get the best out of their students. The school also runs many GATS (Gifted and Talented Students) programs. Your child is identified by the school and is given the opportunity to participate in these program if he or she wishes. The failities provided by the school are improving each year with first class facilites in the technical, catering and science areas. One disappointing area for the school is its sports grounds on locality. However being an inner city High School they have access to all the National Park sporting facilities including the Newcastle Athletics Field which has just been approved for a $800,000 upgrade from the state government to replace the current running track. Other parts of the National Park Sporting Precinct are being upgraded including the famous No.1 Sports Oval. Overall we are extremely happy with what Newcastle High School has provided our children over the last 4 years both in the academic and athletic fields.

  My happy life at Newcastle High began nearly six years ago and boy what a ride it's been, the twists and turns throughout this roller coaster are like none other, from making life long friendships to learning skills that will equip me for my successful future. Newcastle High will forever remain in my heart. Remis Velisque ❤️

  I'm an English/Sports teacher at this inner city comprehensive high school and I love teaching here. The number one reason has to be its amazing diversity. We have kids from high middle class local suburbs mixing with kids from lower socioeconomic backgrounds and a number of out of zone students from all around the lower Hunter Valley. This diversity is a representation of life itself, and I enjoy the fact our pupils don't live in a fish bowl or an overly homogeneous school. Newcastle High is a great school!!
