::About 18 months ago I contracted Aquaseal (via my rental agent) to quote on an en-suite shower that was leaking water through the walls. On Aquaseal's advice I had the shower walls and floor re-grouted using flexible additives at a cost of $550. This work came with a 15 year guarantee. 2 months ago my tenant reported that water was again leaking through the walls and onto the carpet. On contacting Aquaseal to inspect the work they carried out, they advised that some holes were appearing in the grout because quite a few wall and floor tiles had come loose and this is cracking the grout. In their ad they state: "We re-grout these areas using Aquaseal flexible additives. This makes the grout more flexible and is also a sealing agent". On challenging them on this aspect, I was advised that "If the shower has been re-grouted the glue on the back of the tiles dries out and shrinks or becomes loose from the tiles. Glue on the back of a tile is not going to last forever and that house must be 40+ years old". So given the above statement made by them, maybe it would have been more ethical of them to suggest that I look at re-tiling rather than going ahead with work that was obviously not going to fix the problem.
